Multi-location inventory that charges shipping twice

Enable a second Shopify location for stock tracking and checkout may bill shipping twice. ShipManta uses rate profiles and calendar rules so the buyer pays for how you actually ship.

The problem

Location B holds market or overflow stock. Turn shipping on and mixed carts pay twice. Turn it off and checkout errors. Neither option matches “we consolidate before we ship.”

What stores report

Merchants using a second location for markets or nearby warehouses hit Shopify’s location–shipping coupling: inventory available for online orders plus shipping enabled implies a separate fulfillment path and often a second shipping charge. Communities recommend collapsing profiles or manually transferring stock back to the ship-from location.

How ShipManta solves it

Checkout Shipping Rates lets you define zones, product groups, tiers, and combination rules that match how boxes are really built — including live-food flat rates or single-parcel promises when you consolidate. Delivery Calendar rules can hide a dock’s date picker when lines belong to another facility (for example Collective partner locations), so the buyer is not offered capacity on a warehouse that will not pack that line.

On the warehouse side, splits and locations still create the right shipments; the buyer-facing rate no longer has to mirror Shopify’s blunt location shipping toggles.
