Cancel and hold in Shopify — but the warehouse still packs

Fraud checks and customer cancels die in Shopify while ShipStation keeps moving to pending fulfillment. ShipManta holds and cancels on the same shipment the dock packs.

The problem

You cancel or hold an order in Shopify for fraud or a customer request. The packing tool never hears it, and the label still prints.

What stores report

Merchants describe three linked failures: cancels and holds in Shopify do not stop ShipStation; fraud orders keep advancing; and some orders show shipped in ShipStation while Shopify stays unfulfilled. The brand is forced to chase the packing queue in a second admin every time support acts.

Why holds fail across tools

Automation rules in the packing tool often move new imports straight to pending fulfillment. Shopify’s cancel or payment hold is a different event stream. Unless both systems share one work object, the dock’s “ready” list ignores the storefront’s “stop.”

How ShipManta solves it

Holds and cancels live on the shipment the packer sees. On Hold with a reason removes work from Awaiting. Cancelled shipments leave the packing board. Payment holds can keep a merged box from shipping while any source order still owes money. Label purchase and Shopify fulfillment stay tied to that same shipment — so you do not get “shipped here / open there” as the default state.

  • On Hold for fraud or weather without inventing a parallel queue
  • Cancel clears awaiting work instead of hoping a second tool notices
  • Activity timeline shows who held or cancelled and when
  • Scan & Ship and label print only act on shipments that are still allowed to ship
