You shipped — but Shopify never got the tracking

Merchants report thousands of ShipStation labels with no Shopify fulfillment and no tracking email. ShipManta writes carrier and tracking back when the label is purchased.

The problem

The label exists. The truck left. Shopify still says unfulfilled, the customer never got tracking, and support is stuck on Notify Marketplace.

What stores report

On Shopify Community, merchants describe batches where ShipStation shows shipped but Shopify never updates — especially with split shipments. Advice clusters around “Notify Marketplace,” reconnecting selling channels, and bulk re-fulfill apps. That is recovery work, not a design.

ShipStation’s own help docs list common rejection reasons: order already fulfilled, wrong inventory location, fulfillment-service products, out-of-stock mapping.

Why write-back fails

Creating a carrier label and creating a Shopify fulfillment are two API calls. If the packing tool treats the first as success and the second as best-effort, Shopify drifts. Split shipments make bulk “mark fulfilled” tools dangerous because they do not map tracking to the right lines.

How ShipManta solves it

When you buy a label on a ShipManta shipment, fulfillment is pushed to Shopify with carrier and tracking as part of that flow. The shipment is not marked store-synced until that push succeeds — so the next import does not invent a second awaiting copy of work you already shipped.

Splits keep their own tracking. Diagnosis tools answer “why is Shopify still open?” from the shipment timeline instead of three admin tabs.

What the customer sees

Tracking lands on the Shopify order they know. Confirmation and shipping emails can fire from the store they bought from — not from a silent packing tool.
